Humana and Humana Military Healthcare Services Recognized for Commitment to National Guard and Reserve

LOUISVILLE, Ky -Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM - News) and Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS) have been recognized by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization as a result of their ongoing support for Humana and HMHS associates who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Humana and HMHS demonstrate their commitment to employee military service by not only ensuring ongoing compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act Law, but also by adopting polices and programs that go above and beyond the requirements of the law.

“We are especially proud of the Humana and Humana Military associates who are making such an extraordinary commitment to our country by serving in the Guard and Reserve,” said Bonnie C. Hathcock, Humana senior vice president and chief human resources officer. “We are dedicated to providing these associates with peace of mind about their employment, pay and benefits while on active duty. Providing them, and their families, with the support and security they deserve is the least we can do for individuals who sacrifice so much for our freedom.”

ESGR developed the Statement of Support program to enlist support of employers in developing human resource policies and practices that encourage participation in Guard and Reserve programs. Induction into the program demonstrates that Humana and HMHS are active advocates for associate service and have educated their managers to ensure that associates on military duty can serve with no concerns that it will negatively impact their employment or career development at Humana.

“At HMHS, we are driven in our commitment to the Guard and Reserve,” said Dave Baker, HMHS president and chief executive officer. “Many of our associates have some connection to the military, and are passionate about serving active-duty, retirees, members of the Guard and Reserve, and their families. As you would expect, we are thrilled to receive this recognition as a statement of support employer; it’s the latest recognition that our efforts in support of the military are on track and appreciated.”

“Throughout my deployment and upon my return, Humana Military acted in an exemplary fashion both from a personal standpoint and with favorable policies already set in place for Guard & Reserve member’s when deployed,” said Derek Hart, HMHS associate and Kentucky National Guard member. “With Humana, there was never a worry concerning my job over the 33 months of active duty.”

“Humana and HMHS are not just setting an example for other employers in their support of our country’s citizen soldiers,” Major General Donald C. Storm, Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Kentucky said. “Humana and HMHS are going above and beyond for the Guard and Reserve. This recognition is all about people stepping up to support our country, and Humana is clearly committed to our nation’s military.”
