Jack N. Humphries Appointed New ESGR Louisiana State Chair

Washington, DC.-  Mr. James G. Rebholz, National Chairman of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, appointed Ruston, Louisiana resident Colonel Jack N. Humphries (Ret.) State Chair of the Louisiana Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (LAESGR). He served as the Northeast Sector Chair for the Louisiana Committee.  The oath of office was administered to Humphries by Thomas G. Hall, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs in the Ronald Reagan Building. Humphries succeeds Thomas G.  Fierke who completed six years of distinguished service as the State Chair of the Louisiana Committee.

Mr. Humphries is a retired Colonel of the Army Reserve with more than 30 years of military experience.  During his distinguished military career, among other commands he served as the Commander, 3rd Battalion, 95th Division, USAR, the Company Commander, 1083rd Transportation Company, LAANG and as Commandant, 4158th USARF School. He is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University (Monroe, LA) with a BS in Business Management.  He is retired from ENTERGY LA after 40 years of employment having reached the management position of Area Manager Customer Service.

As a volunteer activist, Mr. Humphries has served in a variety of community organizations which included President of the Jackson Parish Economic Development Corporation, President of the Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce, President of the Louisiana State Reserve Officers Association and President of the Claiborne Parish Industrial Development Association. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Directors, People's Homestead Bank, the Board of Directors, Northwest Louisiana Industrial Development Association, the National Advisory Board of Association United States Army and the Board of Directors of the Northeast Louisiana University Alumni Association.

"Today, perhaps more than ever before in our nation's history, the role of the men and women who serve in the National Guard and Reserve units has never been more critical.  Since the horrific events of 9/11, over 500,000 of these volunteers have left their families, putting their careers on hold to answer their country's call. And many thousands who have served and are currently serving have ties to Louisiana.  They truly are the Minute Men and Women of today. But without the cooperation of employers these men and women could not carry out their military missions. "And that is what ESGR is all about.," Mr. Humphries explained.

LAESGR is part of a network of 56 Committees comprised of more than 4200 volunteers located in every state, U.S. territory, the District of Columbia and Europe.  Its mission, as it is with all the ESGR components, is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation, and mediation for employers of employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve.

"I am honored by this opportunity to lead the more than 100 volunteers serving in the Louisiana Committee who give unselfishly of their time helping employers and members of the National Guard and Reserve understand their rights and obligations under federal and state laws," said Mr. Humphries. "I am proud to say that many Louisiana employers go above and beyond in support of their employees who are National Guard or Reserve members by supporting them with pay differential to offset wages and salaries and the extension of employee benefits coverage during mobilizations."
