Derek Cooke receives ESGR Patriot Awards

Green Valley, Arizona, October 18, 2009 -The Arizona Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today that Derek Cooke, Mine Operations Manager, Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold, Green Valley, Arizona was honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of its employee who serves in the Arizona Army National Guard.

Mr. Derek Cooke (middle) receives ESGR Patriot Awards for two of his supervisors, Monty Montgomery and Ron Brown.  Assisting with the presentation is Mr. Darren Venters, Southern Arizona ESGR Chairman and President Linda Linker, Green Valley MOAA.  The nominator, SSG Jerold Summer, USAR, Tucson, AZ. is currently activated.

Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold continues to set the standard in support for their military employees. Freeport has shown overwhelming support for one of their own by welcoming home a seriously injured employee and providing a position within the company that he can perform.  Freeport was also one of 52 companies in Arizona nominated for the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Freedom Award. 

As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America's borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors.
